Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) lies 40 kilometres east of Brisbane in Moreton Bay, on the convergence of the eastern Australian subtropical and temperate zones.
The 27,700-hectare sand island and its surrounding waters support a very diverse range of terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems on which to base research and educational activities.
Boundless oceans, sweeping sand beaches, rugged rocky headlands, mangrove forests, sand flats and seagrass beds enable students and researchers who visit "Straddie" to access its full range of marine seascapes.
Moreton Bay Research Station
Moreton Bay Research Station provides direct access to the waters of Moreton Bay and the Pacific Ocean, as well as the unique terrestrial environments of Minjerribah.
Significant wildlife that can be found close to the station include dugongs (sea cows), dolphins, sharks, turtles, humpback whales, koalas and kangaroos.
