Student research experiences
Gain key skills in research science by undertaking a research project.
We offer projects across a wide range of topics. Choose a project course in your area of interest or contact one of our academics to discuss a potential topic.
Third-year research courses
Develop your research skills with a special research course for third-year undergraduates.
- SCIE3240 Introduction to Research in Biology
- SCIE3241 Special Project in Biology (You can take this course as part of your regular study load or as a UQ Summer Research project that counts towards units for your program)
Summer research
The UQ Summer Research Program offers scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are engaged in research internships over the summer vacation period (from mid-November to mid-February).
Research internships provide the chance to work with a researcher in a formal research environment. This enables you to experience the research process and discover the types of investigations that are being undertaken in your field of interest.
Allocation of the scholarships is decided by the faculty, school, research centre or institute where the research is undertaken.
Winter research
The UQ Winter Research Program provides the chance to road-test research alongside UQ academics and researchers.
All winter scholars receive a Winter Research Scholarship.
The program takes place over the winter vacation period (from mid-June to mid-July).
It enables you to extend your knowledge of an area of interest, and to develop your analytical, critical thinking and communication skills.
Undergraduates, including honours students, who have completed at least one year of study at the time of application, and postgraduate coursework students, can apply.
