Plants are critical components of ecosystems, providing food, fuel, clothing, building materials and medicines, as well as resilience to global change.
Our plant science research spans all our School's disciplines, and covers terrestrial and marine ecology, conservation, evolution, and interactions with animals, insects and microorganisms. We study plants from cells to ecosystems, and undertake projects from genetic, genomic and developmental perspectives.
Our far-reaching impacts on agriculture and natural systems range from sharing knowledge of processes of genetic selection within natural populations and ecosystems that are important for climate change mitigation to discovery of a new plant hormone, and genes and processes that control aspects of plant development such as plant architecture.
We connect to industries through government agencies representing industry and decision-makers and we work closely with farmers and conservation groups. We have links nationally and internationally with China, India, Europe and the Americas.
