Entomology research has a rich history at UQ. Our School staff and students work to progress the field of insect biology and apply findings to tackle fundamental problems and improve the control of insect pests of agricultural and medical importance.
Our basic and applied research is recognised worldwide and features many international research partnerships. Researchers study all major groups of insects and investigate the molecular biology, physiology and ecology of host-pathogen interactions, metabolic toxicology (and its implications for insecticide resistance and diseases of ageing), insect genomics, insect evolution and development, insect–plant interactions, population genetics, population biology and modelling, and the applied disciplines of biological control and pest management.
Close links with industry ensure that our work has an impact on many levels, influencing conservation and pest management practices both in Australia and around the world.
