We are a collection of multidisciplinary ecologists who represent UQ's exceptional ranking of #4 in the world for ecology research.
Primarily based in the School of Biological Sciences, we collaborate widely with like-minded experts at UQ, around Australia and internationally.
We aim to:
- promote and facilitate ecological research at UQ
- provide educational opportunities for undergraduates through to staff
- raise awareness about the wonders of the natural world.
We strive to meet these aims by offering innovative research opportunities, practical and industry-focused study programs, and hands-on citizen science events.
Our research
Our research expertise spans terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecosystems, and understanding the evolution of species and populations.
The impacts of our efforts have important implications and applications to conservation biology, climate change science, environmental planning and environmental policy.

Events and activities
We foster enthusiasm and interest in the natural world through engaging and practical activities for UQ students and staff, and members of the public.
Our research and teaching activities span a range of events, including workshops, community events and Upskill in Ecology camps.
Upskill in Ecology camps combine nature-based learning with defined ecological skills in botanical identification and collection, invertebrate sampling and identification, botanical drawing and landscape interpretation.
The program is a partnership with the Queensland Trust for Nature and is part-funded by a Queensland Chief Scientist Citizen Science grant.
