Human activities are driving ecosystems into unprecedented ‘novel’ community states. Despite their importance for human welfare and biodiversity conservation, we have very little understanding of the importance of novel community states in freshwater ecosystems. Where are novel ecosystems emerging and what forces are driving their emergence? This project will apply new techniques to assess the emergence and drivers of novel ecosystem states in freshwater fish communities across the globe.
