Theme: Ecology genetics and evolution

Description: Urinary tract infections are among the most common bacterial infections and cause much suffering as well as enormous public health costs. In this project, the student will develop mathematical models and computer simulations to gain a better understanding of the population dynamics of bacteria within the bladder. Important factors to incorporate include competition between commensal bacteria and pathogens as well as the antimicrobial treatment and the evolution of antibiotic resistance.

Additional Information: No background in mathematical modelling is required, but some familiarity with R would be beneficial.
